in the philippines has risen to more than one- thousand. typhoon hit earlier this month, and it devastated towns in the country's mountains and along the coast. officials are still searching for nearly eight- hundred and 50 missing people. government christmas celebrations have been cancelled. instead, resources are being devoted to the search, and to helping survivors deal with losses. >> up next. we'll talk to a bay area doctor who specializes in male psychology. but first, more reaction from people who knew the victims of friday's school massacre. here now, a family friend of teacher victoria soto. >> she drove us to cheerleading practices. i am also a teacher i cannot even imagines going through what she went through. i think putting herself out there she is such an angel. she went straight to heaven, there's no doubt about that. minutes. in the philippines, the death toll from tuesday's typhoon rose dramatically. 420 people are confirmed dead and 400 others are missing. most were living in an area that is highly susceptible to flooding and landslides. the government has tried to encourage it people from living and farming there but many risk everything to try to make a living. >>> we're watching fog form in the central valley. we got really high dewpoints. the fog is starting to kick in. that will have an impact on the morning commute around here and in the eastern valley. we have a doze of fog. i'm going to put it in here, big fog showing up right here right now. then by the morning, expect some decent fog in these north bay valleys. so your morning commute is going to be definitely an issue if you have fog concerns like you did this morning. if you had fog this morning you got it again yesterday morning. if you had it this morning and you're used to seeing it you will see it tomorrow morning. around the bay not so bad but you get up toward the san helena area so much rain the nights are cool. we're not

of flooding in the philippines. these pictures show it, days after a deadly typhoon hit the phillippines. this is video. crews, well, they pulled several stranded people to safety, including children. rescuers are still having trouble getting to many survivors in some of the hardest hit areas. 400 confirmed dead. hundreds more still missing. >>> we told you about a woman who survived being stranded six days in the snow in the sierra. experts say there are several things you can do to survive something like that. first they say stay in your car and make sure someone can see it. either you have a lot on inside. be sure to carry warm clothes, a blanket and a flash. and if you are in an isolated area, the best idea experts say is to ration food and wait for help. >> the probability of you being found in the car is higher than going out looking for help. hypothermia sets up very quickly in the sierra. >> experts say if you have to get out of the car, bait for a break in the weather and stay on the roadway and always let someone know where and when you are going and be aware changing condition
